President

Muan Meurer

Bio:
Salutations ladies and gents, my name is Muan and I want to be your next EEPC president. However, for the time being, that’s beside the point; let’s get to know each other a little before we talk politics, get more intimately acquainted if you will. For starters, I’m finishing up my fourth of five years here at CSULA, putting me a year from earning my B.S. in physics and minor in history, a nice mixture of natural and social science which I’m very happy I went for. The time I spend outside of school is filled with things like getting food with friends, taking walks in my local park, playing League of Legends with my buds, anime watching, attempts to learn the ukulele, and very sporadic reading.

To get a little more serious for a second though; despite having these activities to fill my days, not being able to interface with you guys much has taken a lot of the fun and intrigue of school and life in general for me, and that is one of the main reasons why I’m running for office now. The last few months have truly opened my eyes to the importance of EEPC and the value of the fulfillment it provides both individuals and the social organism the program as a whole is. Before I leave the program, I’d be honored to be allowed to contribute what I can to the club that makes all that possible, especially during the year after COVID (fingers crossed) in the interest of those who have yet to experience what EEP is all about. In summation, I’m a super cool physics guy, and this super cool physics guy will work his little booty off to make the coming year great for you guys, that’s a promise.

Policy Platform:
Before I delve into the specifics of my plans for the program, you’ll probably want to know what attributes I possess that qualify me for such an important position.
  1. I’ve been an avid participant in most EEPC events for the entirety of my 4 year run in the program and as a result, have experience with the way events are traditionally advertised and carried out (it’s nice to be able to reflect on the triumphs and failures of past administrations).
  2. I will have had a year’s worth of experience fully in the belly of the beast that is planning events as a part of EEPC by the time next year rolls around (I am currently academic chair and coordinate the frequent game nights).
  3. I possess the leadership qualities necessary to propel the bureaucratic machine to success with both ease and efficiency.
Enough of that though, none of that would convince me as a voter, and I’m sure you are no different. There are a plethora of qualified people for this job (most of which are not running, but whatever), so I’m sure you want to know what specifically sets me apart.
There are a few key things I will look to implement if I am voted in. First and foremost: improve communication between the student body and EEPC. I believe this is the issue that underlies the majority of the difficulties EEPC has had (especially this year) in getting people to participate in the events and programs offered, and it’s certainly not a product of ignorance on the part of EEPC. Effective, two-way communication in this regard is a very simple idea, but its
existence is dependent on a multitude of factors that are particularly hard to manipulate (like student interest), hence why EEPC has been unable to improve upon its completely functional but unideal system of dialogue with the EEP populace. I’m not saying I have a solution to this
problem at the moment, because I don’t, but rather that I recognize that there is a problem and almost certainly a solution out there. Next year will be largely dedicated to brainstorming and implementing potential solutions which will hopefully be largely suggested by those of you not
in EEPC. Essentially, if you don’t read EEPC emails, I get it, I use to not as well, and I’m not going to try to convince you to; I want to, with your help, make you want to read them.

Second, the current administration has initiated/propagated several wonderful knowledge-sharing programs like the Honor College and EEPC lecture series, senior interviews,
and Canvas mentoring forum. I love these initiatives and think once the foundation for each is completely set and built upon to a reasonable extent, they will prove to be invaluable resources for students. I’ll look to expand and improve upon these projects as much as possible and hopefully with your guidance. Again, your input is the lifeblood of EEPC, and I’ll try and make it as quick and easy as possible for you to give it to us on literally anything we do for you guys.

I had a third idea regarding student involvement, but this is getting a bit long so I’m going to taper off for both your and my sake. Just to briefly summarize, the overarching idea behind my presidency will be to push for discourse with you guys which better bridges the gap between what you want and what can be done. If we can make that happen, everybody’s happy.

Let’s make everyone happy, together :)

Vice President

Milton Han

Bio:
Hey everyone, I’m Milton and I am running to be your next EEP Club Vice President! I am currently in my second year, majoring in biochemistry and minoring in microbiology. I enjoy all things sports related, watching YouTube, and spending time with my family and friends. Over quarantine, I spent a lot of my free time playing video games and watching a ton of anime. Right now, I have been playing fps games like Valorant and CS:GO, as well as grinding my account in Genshin Impact…still needs work :(. When i’m not playing games, you can probably find me listening to music like indie, pop, or 70-80’s songs.

Policy Platform:
You might have seen me at EEPC general meetings, since I have been a member of EEPC since the fall 2019 semester! Within EEPC, I am the current Year 2 Representative, and when we were on campus, I participated in general meetings, going to EEPC social events, and keeping my year informed through representative emails. Due to my involvement in EEPC and the amazing experience I have had with fellow members, I want to pursue a board position. EEPC has allowed me to connect with like-minded individuals, make great memories since the beginning of my first year, and helped me find a place on campus where I can be myself. I want to extend that to other EEPsters and help them enjoy their unique experience here at CSULA.

I am qualified for this position because I communicate well with my peers and meet project deadlines. From past leadership experiences, I learned being on time and being consistent allows me to fulfill my responsibilities, stay current with the general meetings and events, which I will continue to bring forward as a prospective EEPC board member. I would like to continue improving the EEP experience for both current and future EEPsters. My goal is to ultimately help EEPsters voice their opinions and thoughts on EEP and the surrounding social events, because I know that it can be intimidating to voice new opinions or concerns. I strive to make people’s opinions heard and make team-oriented decisions that reflect everyone’s input. Through a position such as vice president, I plan to keep EEPC organized and future EEPC events entertaining.

Elder Representative

Angelica Vandekerkhoff

Bio:
Hi everyone, my name is Angelica, and I am a fourth-year elder. I have been playing videos games over quarantine, and by video games, I mean Stardew Valley. I don’t know what it is about farming RPGs but being able to plant crops in a farming sim is an excellent coping mechanism. I also have spent a lot of time watching anime, some of my favorites include Soul Eater and Fruits Basket. Some of my favorite artists to listen to are Japanese Breakfast, Paramore and SZA. My new thing has been collecting cute trinkets to add to my lanyard, the newest addition is a clay mushroom that is actually a small jar to hold my medications; the lanyard as a whole, clinks and jingles very obnoxiously and I will absolutely be showing everyone and explaining everything I have on it if I see you all in person.

Policy Platform:
I have three years of EEP Club experience under my belt: I was an Assistant Social Chair for one year, and a Social Chair for two years. I know how to interact with other EEPC officers and am very familiar with how the club runs. I also understand the importance of EEPster involvement in the club and will do my best to not only inform you of what is currently going on, but also encourage you to attend events that the club works so hard to put together! I plan to do this by sending engaging emails, being active on the unofficial EEP Discord server and regularly attending EEP Club meetings. Because of my experience and past involvement in EEPC, I know I can effectively communicate with my peers and act as a liaison between the student body and EEP Club.

Third Year Representative

Robert Liu

Bio:
Hey everyone! My name is Robert, a current second year, and I’m running for the position of Year 3 Representative. I am currently 15 years old and majoring in Biology, with hopes of going into dentistry when I graduate. I love both watching and drawing cartoons, particularly in the anime/manga style, and I spent a lot of time over the winter having fun over Discord with friends, filling up my sketchbook, and binge-watching anime to get through my mile-long watch list.

Policy Platform:
As the Year 3 Representative, I will attend every EEP Club event and meeting, representing my year in any way I can. With the pandemic and everything online, I know how hard it can be to stay informed about what is going on and how easy it is to feel separated. I will do my best to make information and communication with the rest of the club accessible.
I will make sure everyone in my year is kept up to date on future EEP Club events and communicate messages from the club board to the rest of my year, using both Outlook email and Discord. I will make myself open to everyone in my year through these means as well, and I will pass on any feedback, complaint, or request from my peers.
Brian Nguyen

Bio:
Ahoy, I'm Brian Nguyen, a sophomore running for EEPC Year 3 Representative. A bit about me, I am 16 years old, majoring in biochemistry, and am an avid guitar player. I also enjoy playing games, watching basketball, and hanging out with my family and friends. A few of the games I play include Valorant, CS:GO, Rocket League, and just recently, Swing Monkey.

Policy Platform:
As your Year 3 Representative, I, Brian Nguyen, will keep all those in my year informed of EEPC events, announcements, and upcoming meetings. Additionally, I will attend every EEPC meeting to provide accurate information and pass on questions from those that won't be able to make the meetings. As your representative, I will strive to be the best liaison between our year and EEPC. Please don't hesitate to reach out with any questions. Thank you
Akalpit Shukla

Bio:
Hi everyone! My name is Akalpit Shukla, and I am currently a second year Biochemistry major. Some things about me are, I am 15 years old, and I enjoy playing sports, especially tennis and basketball, in my free time. Other things that I do include binge-watching shows on Netflix, talking with friends, partying (safely!), and spending time with family and friends.

Policy Platform:
As a former Associate Justice and an NSS Steering Committee Liaison in the Associated Students Inc. (ASI), I have experience in the duties of communicating with fellow students and voicing their concerns to meetings. As an EEP Student, I would like to get more involved in EEP-related government and have an effect on the community of friends that have a cultivated an environment where we can enhance each other. I am ready to take upon the duties of this position and utilize my experience to better our experience as third-year EEP students.

Second Year Representative

Christina Feng

Bio:
Hi, my name is Christina Feng, and I’m a second-year EEPster! I’m majoring in Psychology, and enjoy digital art (particularly on my iPad and with my Apple Pencil) and stress-baking during midterms/finals season. The person who introduced me to baking was Claire Saffitz (AKA Claire from the Bon Appetit Test Kitchen AKA CFTBATK, truly a cultural icon), and I actually got her book, Dessert Person! Once we get back in person, I plan to make homemade Twix (it’s really just millionaire’s shortbread)—but shhh… don’t tell Professor Chyau, it’s a surprise! I’m also a die-hard Taylor Swift fan, as you’ll see from my campaign poster: favorite three songs are champagne problems, Getaway Car, and Love Story (Taylor’s Version) (obviously).

Policy Platform:
As part of the only year to be fully online, I understand the struggles in socializing and networking that have greatly affected not only the second-year cohort, but as an EEP community at large. Not only are we significantly younger than our age group, but we have had to communicate through our computers and cell phones to even try to make friends. As second-year representative, I plan to advocate for two main policy platforms:
  1. Make a cohesive list of clubs and student organizations that EEPsters are eligible for, how to join them, and what they do
  2. Expand the knowledge of financial aid to EEPsters and their families
  3. Expand the EEP Alumni Network for advice and experiences that may help not only the second-year cohort, but also future EEP years as well

The first platform is relatively unique to the second-year cohort: we have been online for the entire year, and CSULA hasn’t been too communicative about their student clubs/organizations. Normally, we’d be able to go to club fairs and physically see the clubs and social events we could potentially participate in. However, online, not only are we missing out on great resume opportunities and leadership positions, but we’re also missing out on the university experience—namely, meeting older students and gaining unique college experiences. The transition to in-person classes will be a challenge in this regard, as we’ve already missed out an entire year which could have been dedicated to seeing what clubs/orgs are on campus. This is why I’d like to create a list/network of clubs EEPsters are a part of, how to join, and what these clubs/organizations do in order to jumpstart our years back in person and make the transition much smoother.

I received financial aid in my first year—and I am so, so grateful and fortunate to have had experience with federal financial aid, the FAFSA forms, and the required tax procedures as my older sister has already gone to college. However, I know that some of my fellow first-years had no siblings to rely on, or were the first sibling to college. When attending college at 13, no one can blame you if the FAFSA isn’t really the first thing in mind. However, receiving financial aid is a HUGE advantage, with tuition costs being cut by as much as 80% depending on your income. When going through the financial aid process, I noticed that there was little information in EEPC. Therefore, I’d like to create a financial aid/scholarships assistance network within EEP to help incoming EEPsters as well as current EEPsters apply for financial assistance. Crucial to this will be communicating with incoming EEPsters’ families, and making the procedure of applying for financial aid clear-cut and simple.

Expanding the EEP Alumni Network can be a huge benefit to EEPC in general. We know that the EEP experience is a very unique college experience—yet, we also need to remember that it may remain unique in the future as well. Certain job applications or career opportunities may require high school diplomas or experience, and certain internships may be age-restricted. For a 16 or 17 year old graduate, these hurdles are not only something to be aware of, but something we should also know how to deal with before graduating. Therefore, alumni are our greatest resource. To expand the EEPAN, I’d like to create seminar series featuring alumni, and/or create mentoring partnerships to give current EEPsters more advice and assistance as their years progress.

Sophia Sherzai

Bio:
Hello, I’m Sophie Sherzai and I am 14 years old. I’m in my second year of college and majoring in electrical engineering. As you may know, I have gained experience as a year representative throughout my first year of college. Some hobbies of mine include skating, singing, playing guitar (not very well I admit), and learning about cool science topics!

Policy Platform:
In the COVID era of college life, it can be hard to constantly stay connected and keep up with so many different parts of college life. That’s why, as your second-year representative, I will keep you in tune with lectures, clubs, and opportunities presented for EEPsters and college students in general through emails and updates on Discord.

Along with the problem of not having access to college events and opportunities, there is also not a lot of fun college experiences to have. I know that I personally imagined my college experience would be much more different than it actually is. This is why I will dedicate myself to not only providing more educational opportunities for you all but also providing leisurely activities. I feel that since there is going to be a large change in the way we study if we switch to a hybrid form of learning (online/in-person learning), new classes could be difficult to get used to. This is why I believe access to tutoring is important. Something I want to achieve during my time as a second-year representative is to make tutoring more accessible and present resources for tutoring.
