Amanda Tran
Candidate Biography
Hi, I’m Amanda, a biochemistry major and creative writing minor who plans on becoming a doctor in the future. I love my cat Irbis and my bed. I am a top 3000 beat saber player (I think that's top 1%?); I also create K-pop maps for the community. I am a degenerate that loves shoujo anime and manga and I cosplay sometimes. I also practice kyudo (the Japanese martial art for archery) and research circadian rhythms in cyanobacteria with Dr. Cohen! Right now, I am spending quarantine playing Breath of the Wild (this game is SO good) and am looking forward to Final Fantasy VII remake in April. I’m kind of all over the place because I like getting invested in anything remotely interesting, but that can come in handy for becoming a jack of all trades I guess!
Candidate Statement
As I am entering my 5th and final year as an EEPster, I would like to give back to the community I was essentially raised in by leading EEP Club. I have a love-hate relationship with this place. I love the unique friendships, environment, and creativity that our community has, but at the same time, I am often vexed because of the lack of common decency (kitchen!). I also always see things I could improve in events and EEP spaces.
In the 2017-2018 administration, I had the most wonderful experience planning events as an assistant social chair with my peers. I found a passion for organizing events and looking over every detail to make our events as fun as possible. In the 2018-2019 administration, I served as the link between my peers and the club as my year’s representative and had an absolute blast writing emails I hoped they would read. Finally, this year I have served as your Vice President and have worked to support this administration in every aspect that I could, from advising the social committee to decorating the kitchen and have enjoyed seeing people and projects come together.
In addition to these positions in EEP Club, I have served the Cal State LA community in other organizations. This past year, I have served as the EEP-Honors College Student Liaison in the Honors College Steering Committee (big phrase mean I get to meet important Honors College leaders and represent EEPsters). I worked to represent you in fundamental aspects concerning the Honors College curriculum and Early Entrance Program Admissions. I have also had the pleasure of meeting the future generation of EEPsters by working as Head Mentor. And finally, I have served as the Chemistry and Biochemistry Club’s Public Relations Chair this year, which gave me further insight into club communications.
This club and community has helped me grow as a person, and I am incredibly grateful for all of the experience I have gotten thus far. However, I think it is time for me to use all of that experience to leave a lasting impact on the community we all love so much. I have witnessed the successes and shortcomings of every event and initiative in EEP Club for the past 3 years and hope you will join me in my efforts to push EEP Club to a higher standard. Due to the nature of this election being completely digital, I have created a website to push my campaign forward instead of spamming social media with election material. I would appreciate it if you could take a few moments to check it out—I have chosen an interesting theme that will hopefully hold your attention. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and I hope you will join the A-train!

Vice-Presidential Candidates
George Percival
Candidate Biography
Salutations. I’m George, a third-year Mathematics and Sociology double major, a fellow who will stop at nothing in his arduous and treacherous path to the vice-president throne. If my commitment comes into question, I would like for it to be known that I have ~2.4k hours on the global hit MOBA League of Legends, so I am willing to put in the work to achieve my dreams, both on Summoner’s Rift and on the battlefield that is EEP policy. In terms of reaching my goals as a VP, I have the vertical aptitude to reach most things, and I do not believe that a more efficient, effective, and understanding EEPC will be an exception. I am currently serving as EEPC Secretary, yet have a reserve of ideas that I feel the VP spot would be best suited for me to work to integrate into the club. I have been to ~80% of EEPC events throughout my years here and have come to love the club and what it offers for the students it represents and I wish to give back to the program in my final year. In the words of famed intellectual, Little Pump, Eskettit.
Policy Platform
I would very much like to state that although my biography and platform will most likely have a fair share of humour and memes, I take the position of Vice President as a very serious commitment that I have already dedicated great thought and action towards. I do not apply for this position to pad a résumé or fill myself with a feeling of self-importance, but to work towards a club that this program can be proud of. In times where the EEP community does not feel heard and where years break apart, friendships fizzling out, this club is what holds the program together. Without the club, EEP is held together by communal spaces, which have been threatened and caught up in Honors college politics, yet EEP club provides the adhesion of social events and mediums of communication that are entirely crucial to the EEP experience as we all know it. I am willing to put in the work that this club and of course, this program, deserves. Here are a few of my ideas, some that were meant to be implemented this semester but have been delayed due to COVID limitations, others that I am incredibly excited to bring to the club with this new administration.
Above are my big ideas for the coming administration and while I do have many other small changes I’d like to make regarding events and the EEP spaces and what not, I shall not list them here for concision. I love this program and this club and would love to serve it in this role. I have worked as a mentor and lead mentor in the past and feel equipped to tackle this leadership position and all the work it requires. I have always had an active role in the club and wanted to see more come out of it, and I think a step in that direction would be for me to step up as your Vice President.

Here are a few of my ideas, some that were meant to be implemented this semester but have been delayed due to COVID limitations, others that I am incredibly excited to bring to the club with this new administration.
- EEPC YouTube Channel - I have always thought that EEP was lacking when it came to sharing ideas across the community, whether they be intellectual, intriguing, or simply a bit of fun. Of course there exist chats in the kitchen or various group chats to talk about hobbies or fields of study, yet I desired a common hub of intellectual discussion, artistic expression, and most importantly, of sharing. This could come in a variety of mediums, yet the most clean and almost fun venture would be an EEPC-ran, EEP created Youtube Channel. The content/videos to be posted on this channel will not have a strict theme, but will beautifully express the interests of the EEP population. In pitching this idea to just a few friends, I have been approached with plans to hold a lecture on pens, certain field-specific software, and for animation/art pieces to be posted as well. I also love the idea of sharing music through this platform through a continually updated music playlist. On kitchen-cleaning days (a tradition I hope to keep alive), this playlist can be unleashed and the sweet tones of EEP’s shared music can rain down on the noxious fumes and shiny surfaces. I reckon that we will most likely hit a million subs within our first five videos, so this channel could also serve as an effective means of fundraising, so that’s nice. We could also link a patreon, start selling EEP merch on the global market, the world’s our oyster.
- Alumni Network - I have been talking with some elders who have expressed their discontent at the lack of a more explicit connection with an EEP alumni network, a connection that I can see as only having positive benefits for EEP as a whole. In this coming administration, I plan to build out this connection and work to truly implement alumni suggestions in order to form a better-serving EEP experience with the help of those who have been through the program and come out the other side the wiser. This can be done through many ways, whether that be through utilization of the EEP facebook page or through direct conversation with alumni, but I will find a way as I find the input of alumni to be absolutely crucial to bettering EEP as a whole. Also, I wish for alumni to come and give lectures to current EEP students as is done with prospective students in the Honors Academy. I absolutely loved those talks yet was not at a place in my university career and frankly, in my life, to really take their advice and words to heart, and I feel like I have lost out. I understand that I am not alone in this feeling when talking with peers and so wish to establish perhaps monthly or simply occasional alumni talks so current students can learn from those who have lived lives as EEP graduates.
- The last of my flashy plans for the future that I feel are developed enough to discuss here is to establish a Mentoring program that goes beyond the guidance in Honors Academy, but is throughout the undergraduate EEP experience. In my experience as a student, I have had many concerns about EEP, my knowledge of my chosen field, upper-division classes, course selection, etc. that could and have only been answered by asking some of my upperclassmen who are in my major, and I wish to provide more structure to these relationships. I wish to pair the current first years and second years with upperclassmen (third year +) in their chosen fields/majors to provide each student with someone to ask anything to, without the pressure of having to bob and weave through social circles. There are so many questions that a university advisor or Dr. Arias cannot answer that a mentor could and I really want to give the lower years of our program someone they could talk to. The logistics of this program are to be rigorously developed in the coming weeks, yet I couldn’t be more excited to pursue this concept.
Kyle Taing
Candidate Biography
Hi everybody! My name is Kyle Taing, and I’m currently a third-year EEPster running for the position of EEP Club Vice President. For those who don’t know me, I am currently majoring in Biochemistry, and after I graduate, my dream is to attend medical school in hopes of working as a practicing medical doctor (particularly with a specialty in neurosurgery) in the future. A few hobbies of mine that I enjoy doing in my free time include swimming, watching YouTube and Netflix, and just hanging out and spending time with my friends and family. (In particular, my favorite TV shows of all time include Friends, The Office, Jeopardy!, and Grey’s Anatomy.) I am currently running for EEPC Vice President because I would love to give back to my EEP community that I am proud
to have been a part of for the past three years and to continue the great work that the previous EEPC administrations before me have put into tremendously improving the EEPster’s experience at Cal State LA. As I walk into my fourth and final year at CSULA hand-in-hand with my friends in EEP, I hope that I will have the opportunity and the pleasure to work with my fellow EEPsters in serving this program that I am so honored to call my home.
Campaign Statement
As your EEP Club Vice President, I promise that I will work on expanding ideas for social events held throughout the year, improving the quality and appearance of EEP spaces, and strengthening communication between the various facets of EEP. On top of the events that EEPC traditionally holds throughout the school year (including Bowling Night, Big Bear, and Spring Formal), I would also like to add some new potential event ideas to the calendar as well, including but not limited to: an escape room event, karaoke night, a murder mystery game, and pub-quiz trivia night (in a Jeopardy!-like
style)! (Of course, given how fluid the current unprecedented situation is, it is fairly certain that we would host all EEPC events after the COVID-19 quarantine is lifted and after we reach the other side of the curve.) I also plan to refurbish and revamp the EEP Lounge and Kitchen (although this mostly targets the kitchen if I’m being brutally honest) in hopes of improving the current condition and physical appearance of our rather neglected (and drab) EEP space. A few of my ideas include adding some plants (and perhaps a terrarium as well?), more Kurzgesagt – In a Nutshell and movie posters, and a mini-bulletin board to post pictures and memories from past EEPC events throughout the room – all with the intention of enlivening our kitchen such that it reflects who we are as an EEP community. Finally, I would like to continue strengthening communication between EEP Club and the larger EEPster community as a whole. I say this because communication is of the utmost importance for an organization to properly function and achieve its goals (in the case of EEPC, to host more social events for EEPsters and to better the EEP community). One of the ways to better streamline communication is to continue posting regular club updates on social media and hanging flyers around the kitchen and lounge to let EEPsters know about the next EEPC event.
Furthermore, since class representatives are one of the official methods that EEPC utilizes to communicate with the general EEP population, I also plan to work with the future class reps on creating new and innovative avenues of communication as well as ensuring that regular emails containing EEPC updates will continue being regularly sent to each year. Of course, I plan to work extensively with the future EEPC President to further develop these ideas as well as any others that we (or you!) have in mind once the Summer Session rolls around.
I state all of these concerns and proposals above as an EEPster who wants to further improve the Early Entrance Program by making it an even more tightly-knit community filled with endless passion, creativity, love, and friendships. Given that I understand how EEPC has been operating in the past three years and that I understand a considerably great deal of what the general EEPster community wants out of EEP Club, I know that I am the ideal candidate for the position of the Club’s Vice Presidency. Furthermore, outside of EEP, I have also served the greater Cal State LA population through means of other clubs and organizations. In particular, I am currently serving as an Undergraduate Academic Senator within ASI (where I handle university-level policy and plan on-campus events for the student population) as well as the Academic Chair for the Chemistry and Biochemistry Club (where I supervise both group and individual tutoring programs for various chemistry courses). I have learned much about running organizations from these positions, and I have developed my skills of organization, communication, and leadership that I know I can incorporate into EEP Club next academic year as the next Vice President.
Based on the time and effort that I’ve seen previous administrations invest into EEPC, I understand the workload that comes with operating this organization, and I know that I am more than up to the task of leading the next administration to new heights. Know that along with your class representatives, I will also try my absolute best to act as your personal liaison between yourself and EEP Club, so do not hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions, concerns, or new ideas for EEPC to take on! Overall, I hope that I can work with next year’s administration to help improve the program that has housed and raised me for the past three years at Cal State LA. I say with great pride that I feel that it is only right to give back to the one program that has been my everything and is the reason that I am who I am today – an EEPster and a student of CSULA. I hope that I can leave the Early Entrance Program as a graduating senior knowing that I was part of an administration that has worked to change the lives of my fellow EEPsters for the better and to improve the program for generations to come. (Bonus: For those who know me, I will make one final promise that, if elected, for my fourth and final year, I will end my long-standing tradition and finally attend the Big Bear trip after Fall Semester. :D)

Tam Le
Candidate Biography
Hello everyone! I’m Tam Le, a fourth year entering my fifth and (unfortunately) final year as a Microbiology major undergraduate. I’m a tea addict and an avid fountain pen collector, both of which will serve me well if I’m elected as your Vice President this coming year, as I’m sure there will be plenty of sleepless nights of paperwork pushing. The EEP space and community is a formative part of who I am--I want to help shape it into something even better.
I’m running for the Vice President position because I’m invested in contributing to EEPC by applying my prior knowledge to smoothing out the minutiae of our logistics. We’re a fairly small and informal club, and although our casual approach cultivates a wonderful environment, sometimes things slip through the cracks. I’ve witnessed firsthand as a minor slip of the mind snowballed into a far greater issue. Through my efforts I will support the President, and the rest of the EEPC administration in bringing the events and improvements in our imaginations to life. I intend to give incoming and current generations of EEPsters an even more fun and wonderful EEP experience via a uniquely detail focused approach!
I have previously served in the 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 EEPC administrations as Secretary and Elections Commissioner. Through my time there, I honed communication skills, observed the happenings, and helped with the planning and execution of EEPC events. This year, while I was not an official part of the EEPC administration--I actively participated in fundraising and funding for events, becoming a familiar face at our Banh Mi booth and contributing in other ways. And lastly, I can promise that because I don’t have a life, I can dedicate plenty of time to making EEPC the best it can be this coming 2020-2021 year! :D
Candidate Platform
I have many bold ambitions for EEPC in the coming year, as other candidates do, but in my experience with EEPC I’ve come to realize that in many cases the most impactful and realistic changes are the little ones. Thus, I’ve instead elected to focus my energies on the background details. Thorough planning and careful execution of events and improvements will be ever more important in the coming year, as we recover from the massive impact COVID-19 has had on our school environment. Placing my focus on the logistical issues of EEPC operation will maximize the efficacy of the events and improvements the President, fellow EEPC administration members, and the EEP community strive for.
Nitty, Gritty Not Sexy Logistics Issues:
I present these ideas to establish that I have an intimate understanding of how EEPC works, and the issues we’ve faced in the past. Minute as they may seem, these may have represented major stumbling blocks in our previous administrations. By taking a proactive approach to circumvent these issues we can better our current events, and pave the way to numerous grander additions to the EEP experience via EEPC.

Placing my focus on the logistical issues of EEPC operation will maximize the efficacy of the events and improvements the President, fellow EEPC administration members, and the EEP community strive for.
Nitty, Gritty Not Sexy Logistics Issues:
- Keystone Issue: MONEY! In order to execute many of the big events, and even the little improvements to the EEP space, we need money. Here’s how we can do money making better:
- FUNDRAISING: The better we are at this, the more events we can execute and subsidize. Subsidizing events is extremely important to drive event costs down so we can maximize accessibility and attendance.
- Maintain ASI funding for our fundraising events. This entails getting paperwork done beforehand and after, and ensuring we attend a few key meetings, which historically has been harder than it sounds.
- Having consistent fundraiser staff who have completed the new food safety training required by ASI. Consistent recognizable faces at our booth staff has encouraged more regulars! However, sometimes we’ve had issues finding people to operate the booth, we can formalize the fundraiser staff and schedules to avoid this in the future.
- Maintain a healthy amount of change in our cashbox. We’ve had to do a lot of emergency cash runs, since some students walk around with fairly large bills for whatever reason. Preparing change ensures we won’t miss out on any transactions because someone has a $20 bill we can’t break.
- DOWN PAYMENTS FOR EVENTS: For our big events, like formal or Big Bear, we often need families willing to put down the down payment and be reimbursed later.
- Scouting out those willing to put down the payment ahead of time will help reduce event planning stress a lot.
- Publishing the reimbursement requirements online and through other highly accessible resources will lend further transparency to the process.
- FUNDRAISING: The better we are at this, the more events we can execute and subsidize. Subsidizing events is extremely important to drive event costs down so we can maximize accessibility and attendance.
- A pre-outlined event planning schedule: While we have an event schedule published for the public, sometimes it’s a little difficult to get started early on event planning with all the other school issues going on. Proposing a separate event planning schedule can set soft deadlines which will help us get started sooner and get the word out for longer.
- Ex. A Big Issue: We had a mishap with Big Bear reservations in a past year due to timing.
- Ex. A Small Issue: Sometimes holiday decorating happens a little late.
- Aggressively recruiting chaperones even before events: Chaperones have been a long-standing issue for our events. The more time we have to recruit, the better.
- ASI stop losing our freaking paperwork! Scanning & saving paperwork on drive and documenting when paperwork is turned in (like via taking pictures immediately before) will allow us to disagree with ASI when they say we “never turned something in.”
- Improving our payment methods for events: Right now there’s a lot of shoving money at random EEP officers, which is sketch at best. Let’s fix that.
- There’s an expanded list of my ideas about additions and improvements we can make to EEPC in my more in depth candidate platform document. Please check that out if you’re interested in learning more. Furthermore, I’d be incredibly grateful to hear any other proposals you may think of!

Class Representatives
Elder Representative Candidates
Jacob Parres Gold
Candidate Biography
Hi everyone! My name is Jacob, and I’m a fourth-year EEPster majoring in biochemistry. After I graduate, I hope to enter a Ph.D. program in biochemistry and eventually conduct research in academia. I’ve been involved in EEP Club since my first year, serving as my class representative in my first and second years and as Vice President in my third year. Now, in my fourth year, I have resumed my role as a class representative and would love to continue my duties in my fifth and final year.
Campaign Statement
I have spent the last four years of my time in EEP helping and learning from EEP Club. As a wee first year, I learned from the wonderful Paolo administration about how EEP Club events are planned and organized while, of course, sending out plenty of emails. In my second year, I became more involved (under the Lily administration), helping to plan and coordinate events like Big Bear and Formal. In this time, I also began helping with fundraising and some administrative work. This helped prepare me for my term as Vice President, when I served with the Chris administration to plan a variety of EEP Club events, including the first official Catalina trip since 2015. Finally, this year, I have helped out with the John administration, doing my best to
contribute to event coordination while still communicating with all my substituents. I would love to continue my service in EEP Club because I enjoy working with all the other EEPsters in our club to plan events and offer services that everyone can enjoy.

Third Year Representative Candidates
Anna Nguyen
Candidate Biography
My name is Anna Nguyen and I am 17 years old. Currently, I am going into my third year of undergraduate studies, with a major in Biochemistry. When I am not doing my work, I enjoy spending time with friends, whether we are going out to eat or just watching shows on Netflix. I also enjoy some peace and quiet to just think once in a while. Career goals would be to hopefully become a surgeon one day, but until then, I am enjoying my time here.
Campaign Statement
While I have not been a year representative before, I plan to make sure I establish clear communication with those in my year. I will also work with my schedule to make sure I can attend every EEP Club board meeting, ensuring that I am up to date and well-informed of what is happening in our club. As a year representative, I will be open to all and will do my best to bring up any concerns and questions brought up to me. This is something I have experience with as the current NSS College Student Representative for A.S.I. and I plan to transfer those skills and communications over to my role in EEP Club.

Cindy Nguyen
Candidate Biography
Hello! My name is Cindy and I’m a second year student majoring in biochemistry. In my free time, which I’ve had a lot of recently, I like to watch Netflix, crochet, and bake. Some of my favorite shows so far are How to Get Away with Murder, Money Heist, and You. As a current member of the design, yearbook, and safety committee, I have enjoyed my experience with EEPC so far, which is why I’m running to be your year 3 rep!
Campaign Statement
As your year rep, I would do my best to service you! This means keeping you up to date with EEPC events and being a liaison between you and the club, as well as being open to communication (whether that’s through text or Discord dms). I also have a stash of cute animal pictures waiting to be sent (wink wink)!

Ryan Yoo
Candidate Biography
My name is Ryan Yoo, and I am currently a second year running to be the next Year 3 Representative. I have extensive experience within club administration, serving as an Assistant Social Chair previously. In that capacity, I helped to design, coordinate, and organize many events. I played a large part in the arrangement of Informal (known to some as John and 50 friends). I also have plenty of administrative experience due to my role within ASI (which drains the life out of me). My experience and familiarity within EEP Club makes me the perfect candidate to serve as the next Year 3 Representative.
Policy Platform
As a Year Rep, I plan to utilize my experience within the Social Committee to actively provide a third year’s perspective on how to best organize EEP Club events. I also intend to send out regular, entertaining notices on club matters that pertain to our year, making sure that everyone is regularly informed on club activity. Finally, I will do the most I can in playing an active role within the club, attending as many events, fundraisers, and represent the club during official meetings.

Second Year Representative Candidates
Milton Han
Candidate Biography
My name is Milton Han, and I am currently a first year running for the position of Year 2 Representative. I am 15 years old and a Biochemistry major, who loves all things sports related, watches YouTube in my free time, and enjoys spending time with my family and friends. Wanting to represent Year 1 and all of my friends in EEP, I became the Year 1 Representative. During my time as the Year 1 Representative, I was deeply invested in representing all of Year 1’s interests in EEP Club. I did my best to consistently keep my fellow first years up to date and informed through my representative emails. Overall, I feel that my experience with EEP Club, familiarity with it’s practices, and understanding of my year’s needs, makes me the perfect candidate for the position of Year 2 Representative.
Campaign Statement
As the Year 2 Representative, I will work to create a closer community within our year and encourage some togetherness with the other years. Also, I will keep on doing my best to attend every EEP Club board meeting so that I can represent our year and relay any concerns/questions/desires to the board members. I will continue to inform my fellow first years about incoming EEPC events/developments and send out representative emails on time. Building on that, I will make an effort to make my emails more interesting to read and be open to any new suggestions to change the format/wording of my “boring” emails. Lastly, I want to make myself more available and approachable to those in my year. It is important that as a representative, people won’t be afraid to approach me and tell me a concern or suggestion they have with EEP Club. I hope to achieve this by being more active on Discord, making my DMs open, and just building closer friendships in person.
