First Year Representative Candidates!
Name: Ruei-Chi Tai
Bio:
Hey guys! My name is Ruei-Chi Tai, and I am 16 years old. I am currently planning to major in biochem and music, specifically violin performance. I see myself graduating with these two degrees, having a day job in the medical field and also being able to pursue my passion in music by teaching violin in my free time. Music has always been my passion. I have been playing musical instruments since I was five years old and have gained leadership experience from music itself. Music has taught me skills such as the opportunity to teach younger students and having a section leader position in various orchestras, allowing me to strengthen the team’s resolve by emphasizing the importance of unity to achieve our goals. I joined my high school’s swim team because swimming is also another passion of mine. I felt the bond with my teammates throughout every season, teaching me the value of teamwork. Over the years, I also have been an active member and competitor of my previous school district’s debate team, enhancing my problem solving, innovative thinking, and public speaking skills. In my free time, I love watching Grey’s Anatomy, going to the beach, working out, volunteering, and spending time with my loved ones. Feel free to contact me via email, instagram, discord, or my number. I hope to be able to make this year fun and memorable for us all!

Policy Platform:
With this year being my first year as an EEPster, I will proudly and efficiently represent my peers. I plan to properly fulfill the role of a representative, being the person you can turn to for questions and bring up new ideas to. Having previous experiences of being a leader such as being class president in grade school, orchestra section leaders, and being the event planner at school allows you to believe that I am suitable for this role. Events I have already held this year include two water balloon fights and a boba run, and I plan on having more as the year progresses. To help our year academically, I will hold myself responsible for posting daily homework in a channel on discord for everyone. I want our year to succeed as a whole. I stand in a position where I am not only a candidate, but your friend as well. I will do my best to keep everyone informed, but I believe that teamwork is extremely important, and we must cooperate to achieve our goals. Together, we can achieve great things :) Events I plan on hosting this year include:
- Secret Santa before Christmas as a first year event
- First year photo album at the end of each semester
- Group volunteer opportunities: I know that we have to complete community service hours, so doing them together will be an experience!

Name: Kyler MacRae-Serpa
Bio:
Kyler MacRae-Serpa was born to Canadian parents and learned to ice skate and walk simultaneously. At a young age, Kyler developed an interest in insects and reptiles which has grown over the years to ant and beekeeping. He earned a black belt in Hapkido, Korean Martial Arts by age twelve and is a hockey goalie for the Burbank Cougars Varsity team. Kyler also enjoys playing the drums, swimming, and pretending to understand the game of chess. He currently lives with his parents, younger sister, and many pets, close to the CSULA campus. Kyler attended several schools on his educational journey and is thrilled to be part of the EEP community.
Policy Platform:
My goals as the first-year representative center around making EEP comfortable for incoming freshmen. First, I intend to talk with other first-years over Discord and by catching up in person, instead of relying only on email.
I want to serve the first years specifically by helping to create a buddy system where each first-year is matched to one EEPster in an older year, who can help the first year navigate the program and university. I think this can be personalized and especially helpful as a supplement to the existing communication channels between the first years and the other classes in EEP.
The second years have expressed regret that they did not organize enough events exclusive to their year when they were first years. Taking on this advice, if I am elected, I will use my position within EEPC to plan and run events for the first years only like boba nights, public skates, and any other outings the first years suggest.
I believe the first years can form a distinct and welcoming but not exclusive community as part of EEP and If I am to be elected as a representative, I will collaborate on goals for improving not only the first-year experience but also the EEP community overall.

Name: Ifunanya Okafor
Bio:
My name is Ifunanya Okafor. I’m 13 years old and an EEP freshmen. I’m a Pre-Mathematics Major. Some of my hobbies include reading, swimming, writing stories (fiction-only!). I currently aspire to become a mathematician at NASA with my degree.
Policy Platform:
As your first year rep, I support events that will garner more interactions between the first years and other years. It is important that we not only network with them, but also make more new friends. In addition, for the 48% of us that plan to major in biochemistry and Computer Science, the 24% en route to physics, math, and biology majors, as well the 4.1% for aerospace, business, psychology, mechanical engineering, english, engineering/technology, and
communication disorders each, I plan to advocate for events where we can information hunt together for exploring other majors, discovering more programs that will aid our futures, and possibly plan for summer internships. I will also make sure the the voices of all first year students are heard; communicating more with my year, as well as sending out a form for those that wish to go anonymous in these communications. My ambitions may be small, but I promise to slowly, but surely expand these aspirations to help make our first year as EEPsters as
exciting as can be!
